Which authorizations the transport runs under
An air ambulance transport involves two separate things: operating the aircraft and treating the patient in the air. They are governed differently, and it is worth knowing who is responsible for which.
MED JETS S.A. de C.V. is the Mexican company that operates the Mexican-registered aircraft, under air operator certificate AOC MTS/2015 issued by the Mexican civil aviation authority.
Med Jets USA Inc. is an indirect air carrier authorized under U.S. Department of Transportation Order 83-1-36, 99 C.A.B. 801 (1983). Med Jets USA Inc. does not operate any aircraft. It arranges transport using licensed FAA Part 135 direct air carriers, or their foreign equivalents, to meet the air ambulance and medical evacuation needs of its clients.
What this means when you book
Every flight is operated by a certificated air carrier with its own current certificate, its own qualified flight crew and its own maintenance program. The medical team assigned to the case provides the clinical care on board.
If a provider cannot tell you clearly which certificate the aircraft flies under and who operates it, ask again before you book. It is a fair question and any legitimate provider can answer it in one sentence.
Questions worth asking any provider
▪ Who holds the operating certificate for the aircraft that will carry the patient?
▪ Is the medical crew employed by the provider or subcontracted for this flight?
▪ What specific equipment will be on board for this patient’s condition?
▪ Is the quote bed to bed, including ground ambulances at both ends?
